IZTECH Hosted Specialized Aquasphere Bootcamp for Chemical Engineering Undergraduates to Drive Blue Economy Innovation

In its continuing mission to cultivate the next generation of sustainable innovators, Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) successfully hosted a specialized Student Bootcamp on July 30, 2026. Organized under the umbrella of the Aquasphere EIT HEI Project, this intensive program was uniquely tailored for undergraduate students in the Chemical Engineering department.

Connecting Chemical Engineering to the Blue Economy

While the Blue Economy is often associated with marine biology and maritime logistics, chemical engineering plays a foundational role in its sustainable future. From advanced wastewater treatment and desalination to the development of marine-based bioplastics and sustainable aquaculture technologies, the sector relies heavily on chemical engineering breakthroughs.

The bootcamp was designed to bridge the gap between traditional chemical engineering curricula and the emerging opportunities within the Blue Economy, including topics such as sector-specific problem solving, developing an entrepreneurial mindset, and hands-on collaboration.
